TV networks have seen the power of social media in the aspect of connecting with their viewers and generating hype over their shows. USA Network is one of the many networks that have realized the power of social media in this regard and that is why for the second season of the hit show, Mr Robot, they have used social networking sites to arouse interest for the new season.
Snapchat is one of the popular social networking sites and the network decided to do something radical that deviates from the norm in the marketing of a show. In partnership with BuzzFeed, Mr Robot’s Season 2 Premiere will be aired on Snapchat live on BuzzFeed’s Snapchat Discover channel.
BuzzFeed gave out instructions on how you will be able to watch the season 2 premiere of Mr Robot on their Snapchat Discover channel. Simply, you only need to scan their Snapcode as provided in the article then swipe along the articles in their Discover feed until you see content regarding Mr Robot. If you use Snapchat, you will know that in order to view content on Discover, you need to scroll up and just like that, swipe up on the Mr Robot content and you will be watching the premiere episode.
That was not the only thing USA Network did to promote Mr Robot. They had an epic Facebook Live campaign as reported by the WSJ where the cast were involved in a live Q&A session and 20 minutes in, they were “hacked” by the fictional FSociety group that is featured in the TV show which led people to to watch a preview of season 2’s premiere.
This is an awesome campaign by the network and it signals the new marketing strategy undertaken by companies in marketing through social media. Oh by the way, Mr Robot Premier will start airing from 8:45 PM EST, which is 3:45AM tomorrow in our time so if you want to watch it before the scheduled 13th July release, this is your chance.
