Bixby, which was announced along the Samsung Galaxy S8, is Samsung’s second attempt at AI-Powered digital assistants. The first, S-Voice, was a flop. No need to butter that chicken.
Bixby looks promising, although we are yet to interact with it, Samsung’s demo of the digital assistant was quite impressive. The digital assistant can understand context better than current digital assistants (Alexa, Siri, Cortana and Google Assistant). “Bixby will be able to support almost every task that a Bixby-enabled app is capable of performing using the conventional interface (ie. touch commands)”, says Samsung.
So, at this time, you can only get to enjoy Bixby if you’re planning on buying a Galaxy S8. However, guys over at XDA Forums have managed to get Bixby working on a Samsung Galaxy S7.
According to XDA forums, any Samsung device running Android Nougat should be able to run Bixby, albeit unofficially.
- The first step is to install Galaxy S8 launcher
- Then sideload the Bixby APK (alternative link)
- Open the Galaxy S8 launcher settings by long pressing on the home screen
- Activate Bixby from the launcher settings
- Reboot your device
- Swipe left for Bixby
If you are daring enough to try it out, please do and let us know your experience below. Please note that we are not responsible for any damage that may occur to your smartphone as you do the above stated actions.
