Facebook Pages are the best way to keep up with celebrities or known publishers on the platform. One very obvious design feature Facebook added to Pages was the ability to add a header. This can be used as a billboard of sorts as shown very well by movie studios adding posters as headers or by TV shows where they add a poster of an upcoming episode.
However, these posters are static since they are pictures and it seems Facebook wants to go a step further to make them more enticing for followers.
According to Social Media Today, Facebook confirmed to them that they are testing video cover images on some pages. Here is a statement they received from the social networking giant:
“We recently started testing the ability on desktop to upload a video as the Page cover. Once a cover video has been created, video will render when people visit the Page.
By making cover video available, we want to help you create engaging interactions and drive more rich experience for your audience by letting you spotlight your creative content in one of the most prominent spaces: your Page cover.
The feature is still in early testing, but we expect it to roll out more widely soon.”
We can say this functionality will work the same way as profile videos which Facebook rolled out a while back. Since Facebook is a company that has been focused on video to drive engagement stats up, you can bet this feature will become popular when it is finally released.
Now we wait for the official update from Facebook some time in the future.
