The Finance Act 2018 is already in place. The law forced mobile operators to revise upwards their charges for calls, SMS and data services, and while this has rubbed Kenyans in the wrong way for obvious reasons, Airtel Kenya wants to cushion the aftermath, at least for the folks that use the carrier’s Amazing Data plan.
It should be noted that the product was announced sometime in 2017 to a positive response. However, Airtel, which has since joined the 4G party, is not the most reliable network as far as data services are concerned. Nonetheless, this has never stopped it from launching a series of innovative products, and while it is Kenya’s second largest telecoms operator (latest report from the Communications Authority indicate Airtel gained customers), profits continue to evade its books but that is a story for another day.
