The Education CS, Ezekiel Machogu, has officially released the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results for candidates who sat for the examination last year. This comes weeks after CS Machogu released the KCPE 2023 results in November last year. The 2023 KCSE exams were done from November 6th to the 24th of the same month.
According to the Ministry, a total of 899,453 candidates sat for the national exams with a total of 1,216 candidates scoring an A grade.
The 2023 KCSE was the first exam to have implemented the new grading system following the recommendation by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform. The new system grades candidates based on two mandatory subjects: Mathematics and one language (English, Kiswahili, or Kenyan Sign Language). In addition, the national examinations body, KNEC, considers any other five best-performed subjects to compute the KCSE mean grade.
CS Machogu has since directed universities to align their programmes to the new grading system by reviewing course cut-off points.
