Adobe has released its first AI-powered video editing feature in Premiere Pro, aiming to streamline the editing process through text-based commands.
The new tool allows users to edit video by interacting with a transcript of the spoken content, rather than working directly on the timeline.
The feature, now available in the latest version of Premiere Pro, is based on Adobe’s Sensei AI platform. It was initially introduced in beta form in 2023 and has now been fully integrated into the software.
With this update, users can generate a video transcript and perform edits — such as cutting or rearranging clips — by highlighting and modifying text. The corresponding video is automatically adjusted in the timeline.
This approach is intended to simplify common editing tasks, particularly for projects involving interviews, vlogs, or dialogue-driven content. It also reduces the time spent manually reviewing and cutting video clips.
Adobe has positioned the tool as both a productivity enhancer for professionals and a more accessible entry point for users who may not be familiar with traditional editing interfaces.
In addition to time-saving benefits, the feature could be useful in workflows that prioritize speed, such as news production, social media content creation, and corporate video editing.
Adobe stated that the tool can help reduce the amount of manual labor involved in creating a rough cut.
Adobe also previewed upcoming AI-driven features, including automatic object removal and enhanced audio cleanup capabilities, which are expected to roll out later in 2025.
These additions are part of the company’s broader strategy to integrate generative AI across its Creative Cloud suite.
The introduction of AI in Premiere Pro comes as competition intensifies in the video editing software market. Tools like Descript and CapCut have already implemented similar AI-assisted functionality, offering streamlined editing through text and voice analysis.
The text-based editing tool is available now to all Premiere Pro users through the latest software update.
