Microsoft has officially launched the Bing Video Creator, a new feature in its mobile Bing app that allows users to generate AI-powered videos from simple text prompts.
What makes this release especially notable is that it uses OpenAI’s advanced video model, Sora, and marks the first time it’s being offered to the public for free.
Previously, access to Sora was limited to ChatGPT’s premium users. But the latest integration by Microsoft opens the door to a broader audience, reinforcing the company’s long-standing partnership with OpenAI.
To use the Bing Video Creator, all a user needs is the Bing app and a Microsoft account. Once logged in, users can generate up to 10 five-second video clips for free.
These videos are produced in a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio, ideal for sharing on social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
Each video is created by simply typing a descriptive prompt, for example, “a futuristic city at sunset.” At the moment, videos are limited to 5 seconds, and users can queue up to three at a time.
Microsoft has confirmed that support for horizontal (16:9) video generation will be coming soon.
Microsoft Rewards
After the initial 10 free videos, users can continue using the Fast mode by redeeming 100 Microsoft Rewards points per video.
These points can be earned by performing Bing searches (5 points per PC search, with a daily cap of 150 points) or through purchases on the Microsoft Store.
There’s also a slower “Standard” generation mode available for free, although it takes longer to process videos. All generated videos are stored within the Bing app for up to 90 days before being automatically deleted.
Availability
Currently, Bing Video Creator is rolling out globally, with the exception of China and Russia. Microsoft also plans to extend the feature to desktop users and integrate it into Copilot Search in the coming weeks.
