Nokia announced 6 new devices earlier today at Nokia world event. These were 4 series 40 devices the Nokia Asha 300, 303, 200 and 201. This was followed by a bigger announcement of Nokia Lumia range, the Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710. Nokia Lumia 800 looks almost exactly like the Nokia N9 that made waves in the sea of online media, including social media. Question I beg to get an answer for is, was Lumia 800 the device that was primed to shake the markets as said by Stephen Elop, Nokia CEO? Wait and see, right?

Apparently, judging by a trending topic on twitter, Nokia Lumia 710 got people talking more, so we start with it, see what its all about. And if it was worth the move from symbian, while leaving the options there were.

Nokia Lumia 710

Nokia Lumia 710 features a 3.7 inch WVGA(800 x 480) clear black display with pinch to zoom, no Amoled here but atleast its capacitive. Comes with windows phone 7.5 Mango. Data is HSDPA of upto 14.4Mbps GSM and EDGE. Processor is 1.4 GHz Single Core.  The device has 512 RAM and an 8 GB internal storage, nothing beyond that, a 5mp autofocus camera(atleast here Nokia got it right and stopped doing cameras without autofocus). Bluetooth is 2.1, micro-USB connector and the charger port, 3.5mm jack. Battery is 1300mAH. Weighs 125.5 grams.

It comes preloaded with Nokia drive navigation. Nokia maps is available from the Marketplace, Nokia music and Mix Radio, XBOX Live Hub and Nokia Music store. Pricing is 270 Euros. The colours you can see on the image above, any colour blind reader? 🙂

There was a time I indicated that I loved the Nokia N9, seeing something come off it gives me joy. i dont know about windows phone as I have not interacted with one, but we’ll see. Nokia Lumia 800(where did they get that name?) also has a 3.7 inch capacitive ClearBlack display, but AMOLED and curved. It has a 1.4 GHz single core processor and hardware acceleration and a graphics processor.

The outer cover has the unibody just like N9. Data is GSM/EDGE of upto 14.4Mbps HSDPA. It has 512 Mb Ram and 16GB internal storage, an 8mp autofocus Carl Zeiss camera with Led flash. Weight is 142grams and connects vis WLAN, bluetooth 2.1, A-GPS and micro-USB.  Battery is 1450mAh. Pricing is 420 euros and will be available in black, cyan and magenta colours. Oh! And the OS is ofcourse Windows 7.5 Mango.

With this you get Nokia drive, Nokia Music and Radio, contacts transfer from other platforms, XBOX Hub and Outlook mobile.

Lumia 800 will be available on preorder in select countries starting with France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and UK next month. Then Hong Kong, India, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan from early 2012.

Lumia 710 will show up in Hong Kong, India, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan in the end of 2011 and other markets in 2012.

  1. Nokia has a steped forward to drive it market in Windows Phone 7 Operating system. Nokia has been struggling with it incapable Symbian smartphone operating system. Why did u think that Nokia didnt go Android way?…I dont have a clue but i suppose Nokia, sayed no to “Me too” and opted to use what the company C.EO termed as better than anything else in the smartphone operating system market.

    • You know one thing I am happy about for Nokia, its that they are daring to go the different way. Windows Mango development has many things lacking, the reason these two phones dont have NFC is coz Mango doesnt yet support it. And they also started with a good pricing.
Another thing is the polycarbonate cover of Lumia, makes the phone have better reception than most phones, including the predecessors N8 and E6.
Question is, how soon will it be before demand for a phone with more internal storage than 16GB?
