A new and updated Lenovo ThinkPad T431s was announced at the Engadget Expand event held in San Francisco today. The updated series features a 14-inch screen and Lenovo plans to release it on April starting at a price of $949.

The new 14-inch laptop looks like a Lenovo ThinkPad: black with a red button in the middle of the keyboard. The optical drive has been removed to create a lighter 3.5 pound laptop. The removal makes the machine thinner with sleeker touchpad buttons. It also opens up to a 180-degree angle down the hinge making it lie flat.

The series plans to support 4G (Long Term Evolution) and 3G and with a 12-inch version also being promised at a future date.
