Amazon has gone live in South Africa. The global tech company with a focus on digital streaming, e-commerce and cloud computing has launched its dedicated marketplace platform in South Africa.
The firm will offer direct delivery and on their first entry in the African continent is offering shoppers free delivery with their first purchase. At launch, the company is supporting 3000 pickup points.
Amazon South Africa marketplace has been in the works for two years pending delays with rumours starting in early 2022 when the firm was looking for warehouse space in the country.
Last year, Robert Koen, general manager for Amazon Sub-Saharan Africa region confirmed launching in Africa saying that they looked forward to providing local sellers, brand owners, and entrepreneurs both small and large, the opportunity to grow their business with Amazon.
Amazon South Africa has partnered with The Courier Guy and Pargo in addition to its pickup search tool.
The second country Amazon was planning to venture into was Nigeria but those plans seem paused.
