Orange, has reduced the prices of selected voice and data devices available from Orange shops and partner outlets countrywide. The changes range between 5% and 65% reduction in price.
Devices affected by the price change include Smartax MT880 ADSL modem from KSh 8,500 to KSh 2,999; the SunTab tablet at KSh 19,999 down from KSh 23,999, pre-loaded with an Orange SIM card as well as one-month unlimited internet on mobile; the Samsung Galaxy S Duos at KSh 21,499 from KSh 22,999; Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini i8190 at KSh 27,999 from KSh 29,999 and the Nokia 305 whose price has been reduced to KSh 6,899 from KSh 7,299.
“Mobile penetration has been steadily rising in Kenya. The increase was slightly below two percentage points, from 75.4% to 77.2%, in the last quarter reviewed by the CCK. This indicates that the appetite for mobile devices and by extension data enabled products is still on the increase. Therefore, Orange is keen on providing more competitive options for an ever growing mobile market,” said Ms. Maureen Sande, Orange’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer.
Statistics show that for the first quarter of the 2012/2013 financial year, there were a total of 30.4 million subscriptions in the Kenyan mobile telephony market compared to the 29.7 million posted in the previous quarter.
