Intel announced a new generation of its Thunderbolt interface at the National Association of Broadcasters conference today. Code-named Falcon Ridge, it allows 4K video file transfer and display at the same time. The data rate has also been increased to 20 Gbps in both directions. Falcon Ridge will be compatible with previous generations of Thunderbolt cables and connectors. The new interface is expected to make its way into products by the end of this year.
Thunderbolt was introduced to the Mac Pro tower after a collaboration between Apple and Intel in 2011. Other PCs including Lenovo and Acer also feature the port.
