Google Kenya is set to launch the Doodle 4 Google 2013 competition to mark 50 years since Kenya’s independence. The competition will be open to Kenyan school students of ages 6 to 18 years. The competition encourages students to create their own doodles, giving each of them a chance to be awarded individually or to win a prize for their school. The 2013 contest is themed, My Kenya.

The first doodle on Google’s homepage was a fun message from the founders, Larry and Sergey that they were attending the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert back in 1999. What begun as a temporary redesigning of the corporate logo has become part of the Google brand with notable people and events being recognized creatively through doodles. Past Doodles for Kenya included Kenya Election Day 2013, Kenya Independence Day, and 2010 Doodle 4 Google competition winner. All the Google Doodles can be found here.
