French multinational mobile operator, Orange, has reported that its customer data was targeted by unknown hackers on 16th January. The intrusion affected the accounts of up to 800,000 customers of Orange website. Upon discovering the attack, the Orange “My Account” page was shutdown from the website to prevent data leakage.
Orange customers were notified of the breach via email. Although passwords were not affected, 3% of customer data stored by orange.fr was affected. Personal data accessed during the breach include: customer names, mailing address, email, landline and mobile phone numbers. This information can be used in phishing attacks to gain bank account details, for instance.
