Move over Lumia 1020, Oppo’s Find 7 may adorn a 50 megapixel camera

Yes, you heard me right. A 50 megapixel camera. The keyword, however, is “may”.

Oppo has been teasing its upcoming Find 7 smartphone for a while now and with the launch event of the device drawing close (March 19th), we’re bound to see specs of the device leak. The Galaxy S5 was laid bare hours before the Unpacked 5 event where it was to be made official and HTC’s upcoming ‘All New One’ is now very familiar to us.
Oppo Find 7 camera sampleAs we wait for the Find 7’s leak moment, there’s an image from Chinese social site Weibo who’s EXIF data reveals a resolution of a staggering 8160×6120 pixels. Now that can only be achieved by a 50 megapixel shooter. Previous rumours had pointed to the Find 7 packing a more modest 13 megapixel shooter but this new revelation surely blows everything out of the water.

Oppo has been known to do some interesting things with cameras on its devices. The N1 for instance has a rotating camera that will suit your sunset captures and your selfies at the same time.

Nokia’s Lumia 1020 currently leads the pack as far as the race for more pixels goes with a whopping 41 megapixel camera. Sony’s Xperia Z1 follows at a distant second with its 20.7 megapixel shooter. Nokia’s other offering, the Lumia 1520 has a decent 20 MP shooter at the back while Samsung’s belated answer to the 1020, the Galaxy S4 Zoom and its 2014 flagship, the Galaxy S5 tie with a 16 MP sensor that is technically different among the two.

The Find 7 is expected to pack a 2K (2560 x 1440) display and some other beastly specs like 3 GB RAM, a Snapdragon 801 processor (earlier rumours mentioned the S805 but that is not really likely) and a 5 MP compliment of the main 50 MP at the front alongside a mammoth 4000 mAh battery.

Here’s to hoping that the Oppo Find 7’s rumoured camera will indeed turn out to be this 50 MP shooter. Howver, until Oppo widens its distribution channels, you may get all excited and never get to see the phone in your country leave alone being able to afford it.
