yuMobile employees have agreed to the operator’s proposed acquisition by Safaricom and Airtel. The employees had earlier moved to court to block due to the uncertainty of their surrounding their future. Although it had been among the points of discussion, absorption of Yu’s employees had not been guaranteed upon acquisition. A separation package has been negotiated on behalf of the employees by their lawyer Charles Kanjama. This includes severance pay, a bonus and medical cover up to August of this year.
Employees have also requested the operator to make reasonable effort in the negotiation for the absorption of the yuMobile workforce into either Safaricom or Airtel. Yu is yet to make any commitment in this direction as this will mainly be influenced by Safaricom and Airtel.
