Microsoft purchased Office.Porn and Office.Adult for $99. The company joins others including Taylor Swift, Richard Branson among the long list of celebrities and personalities who have taken to buying .Porn and .Adult domains. Taylor Swift has according to internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) purchased the TaylorSwift.Porn and TaylorSwift.Adult domains.
ICANN expanded the generic top level domains such as .Com, .Net and .Org from 22 to 550 in 2011 with new ones released every month. The Non-profit attributes the decision of different endings to web addresses as aimed at helping users arrive at their destination quicker. It also says websites ending in .porn or .adult are easier for parents to monitor and block.
The web domain names go on sale 1st June but some influential personalities are accorded the chance to snap theirs earlier. Also on sale will be the .sucks domain. Taylor swift is keen on protecting her intellectual property having applied to trademark five phrases from her album 1989 with the US government. “Party like it’s 1989”, “this sick beat”, “cause we never go out of style”, “could show you incredible things” and “nice to meet you, where you been?” were all apparently registered by the singer with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
One may want to assume that Microsoft purchased these two domains just to ensure that they are reserved and no-one can buy them to slander them in future. You wouldn’t expect that they wanted to sell a product around the name office porn, now would you?
Well i might just buy Wainaina.Adult
