Orange Klif is the first Firefox OS smartphone on the African continent. While we were not necessarily wowed by it during our review period, it clearly appealed to its target market and is winning some accolades while at it.
At the recently concluded AfricaCom tech conference that drew thousands of attendees from Africa and around the world, the 3.5 inch device was voted the “Best Device for Africa” this year. While there could be other entry level or mid-range smartphones that we think could be more deserving of the honour, it is worth noting that the Klif was pitted against a rather high-end smartphone, the Huawei P8 and a carrier-specific device, the Steppa from MTN South Africa in the final round and rightfully trounced them thanks to its wide appeal both in functionality and pricing.
