In most social networks like Instagram or Twitter, you end up acquiring followers as you interact with people on the network. These followers could be real people or bots created by other people. However, in a way, they don’t give you the illusion that you are being followed in real life by a person, like how you feel when someone tails you in the street. Now there is a social network that does exactly that.

Follower is a social network where you apply to be followed by a real person on the ground. You fill out a form with your name and email, why you need to be followed and why you should they follow you. If you are successful, you will receive a link so that you download an iPhone app. The follower that will be assigned to you will be observing every moment that you will experience that day and as the day ends, the follower will leave you with one photo for remembrance.

It is a rather interesting network and it was started by Lauren McCarthy from NYU who explained to Engadget about the project. “There is something strangely intimate about the whole thing for me, by the end of the day, I feel as though I know them, and we have had a prolonged experience together. At the moment, only Lauren can do the following part of the experience.

Sounds weirdly awesome right? Well if you want to sign up for the service, you only need to be in New York at the moment.
