It’s been almost 10 weeks since Universal Music Group pulled songs by its artists from TikTok but Taylor Swift-owned songs are back on the social media platform.
Songs by artists signed under the record label were removed early this year following the expiry of licensing agreements between the app and UMG and failed negotiations to renew said licenses. However, Taylor’s songs including her aptly named “Taylor’s Versions” and her recent songs are available on TikTok.
Taylor is among other artists under UMG including Drake, Taylor Swift, The Weekend, Beyonce, SZA, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Adele, Elton John, Coldplay, and Post Malone. When the songs were removed, a lot of viral TikTok videos went mute.

Taylor now owns most of her songs since reclaiming ownership of her old albums with the re-recordings and her latest songs which are now available on TikTok. She is slated to launch her new album – “The Tortured Poets Department” in a week on April 19th and songs in the album being available on TkTok will help market the album with people using her music to create content.
As of this month, Taylor Swift is the number one most-streamed artist of all time on Spotify and her songs being on TikTok will benefit the video platform as the Swifte fanbase is huge.
