It has taken a while for the latest version of Android to hit Wileyfox’s senior-most device from the past year but it is finally here.
Cyanogen 13, the most recent version of Cyanogen, the customized version of Android that runs on Wileyfox devices, is now available for the Wileyfox Storm.
Cyanogen 13 is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and this effectively means that the Wileyfox Storm’s software is getting a major bump from the Android 5.1 Lollipop it shipped with starting last year to Android 6.0.1.
Before the Cyanogen 13 rollout, users of the Wileyfox Storm could only upgrade to Android Marshmallow by flashing a CyanogenMod ROM.
The other Wileyfox smartphone from last year, the Wileyfox Swift, was the first to receive the update back in mid-May. Wileyfox’s latest smartphones under the Spark banner, all ship with Cyanogen 13 onboard.
For those who can’t wait for the over the air (OTA) update to hit their devices, you can help yourselves over at the Cyanogen website (files 1, 2, 3) and go ahead and manually flash the firmware update. Just make sure you know your way around fastboot – it’s not hard.
