Huawei Matebook XHuawei has been killing it at the smartphone game, they also make tablets and smart watches that quite good but you probably did not expect the company to start making laptops. Huawei announced the new Matebook X alongside the Matebook D, which are the company’s first ever laptops. The Matebook E which is a hybrid tablet was also announced as a refresh to last year’s Windows 10 tablet.

The Matebook X has a 13-inch 2K (2160*1440) display with a 3:2 aspect ratio that is said to be good for office work and school, a sleek aluminum chassis that comes in either Gold, Grey or Pink color options. The Matebook X is the first laptop to feature in-built Dolby Atmos sound system which features integrated hardware and software solutions for superior audio quality.

Other specifications include:

  • Intel Core i5 or i7 Processor (7th Gen)
  • 8GB RAM
  • 256GB or 512GB SSD
  • Full-size Chiclet backlit keyboard
  • Two USB-C ports (with a multi-port adapter included)

The Matebook D is what I would term to be the option for power users. The Matebook D looks identical to the Matebook X aside from the screen size which is larger at 15.6-inches but with a lower resolution of 1080p. The Matebook D has a Nvidia GeForce 930MX graphics card, so clearly, the Matebook D is the better option for gamers as it also includes the Dolby Atmos sound system found in the X variant.

Other specifications include:

  • Intel Core i5 or i7 Processor (7th Gen)
  • 8GB RAM
  • 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD
  • Full-size Chiclet backlit keyboard
  • One USB port, one USB-C port and one HDMI port
  • Estimated 8.5-hours battery life
  • Fingerprint reader embedded within the power button

The Matebook E

The Matebook E is a hybrid tablet that comes with a detachable luxe leather keyboard. The tablet features a 12-inch 2K display (2160*1440) and is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor. The Matebook E runs Windows 10, has one USB-C port for charging and data transfer and features a fingerprint reader embedded within its volume rockers.

Other specifications include:

  • Intel Core M3 or Core i5 Processor (7th Gen)
  • 4/8GB RAM
  • 128/256/512 GB internal storage
  • One USB-C port
  • Estimated 9-hours battery life

No pricing or availability details have been announced yet, however it will be in Huawei’s interest if they would undercut their competition by offering decent pricing that will not break the bank.
