Airtel 4GAirtel Kenya has officially launched their 4G network in the country. The high-speed network that has been undergoing testing for the better part of 2017 and early 2018, brings the number of Kenyan telcos operating on the 4G network to four.

During the launch, Airtel stated that they have witnessed a 50% growth in data usage on their network attributing the growth to their unique data offerings such as Unliminet and Amazing Data Bundles. The company’s MD, Prasanta Das Sarma, also noted that over two-thirds of the company’s subscribers are active mobile data usage.

“Airtel is committed to continuously innovate and improve the quality of its products and services for a delightful customer experience. We believe we have launched our 4G service at the most opportune time especially now that many customers have access to more 4G enabled handsets and devices,” said Mr Prasanta Das Sarma.

The network is currently available in Nairobi and Mombasa and their environs with greater rollout planned for later on in the year. Airtel customers can upgrade their lines to be able to access the 4G network by either dialling *100# from their phone and selecting the upgrade menu or getting a 4G SIM from any Airtel shop.

Airtel is also running a promotion where the company is offering double data to all customers who have a 4G handset and a 4G SIM card. Customers will be required to subscribe to the amazing monthly bundle and the option they select will be doubled. In addition to that, any Airtel customer who upgrades to 4G will get a 2GB data free.
