OPPO is one company that has been hyping their selfie prowess since time immemorial. The company has today unveiled their latest flagship offering into the Kenyan market. Under the moniker OPPO F7, the phone brings the latest technology the company has to offer in the midrange segment, including AI Powered selfies and notched-full displays.
The OPPO F7 brings to the table what is arguably the world’s first 25MP selfie camera but whether the photos produced live up to the hype is another thing altogether. Aside from the all-in selfie shooter, the device comes in an unusual 19:9 aspect ratio, thanks to the iPhone X style notch found on the top bezel. Aside from that polarizing front panel, the rest of the phone is pretty standard with the usual offerings of a single main camera, mono downwards-facing speaker, old-school USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Other specifications of the phone include:
- 6.23″ FHD+ Display
- 16MP main shooter and a 25MP selfie shooter
- 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage
- MediaTek Helio P60 processor
- Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorOS 5.0 on top
- 3400mAh battery
The phone will retail at Kes.35,990 putting it in direct competition with the likes of TECNO Camon X, Huawei P20 Lite and Nokia 7 Plus. However, there’s a higher spec’d version of the F7 that will come in a black colour with a diamond-like finish that will offer 128GB internal storage coupled with 6GB RAM. The availability of this specific model is yet to be confirmed.
With every other smartphone out there trying to compete in the same selfie-focused segment, we’ll be looking out to see how effectively the F7 will compete in a market that is well driven by price differentiation and brand equity.
The OPPO F7 is up for pre-order on Jumia and offline stores until May 6, 2018.
