The list of Nokia smartphones in the country has been steadily growing with a focus of midrange and budget offerings. The latest entrant is the Nokia 2.1 which HMD Global says offers long-lasting entertainment thanks to its bigger screen and dual front-facing stereo speakers.
Making its way through the murky waters of budget offerings in Kenya, the Nokia 2.1 aims to woo customers through seemingly superior specifications such as:
- 5.5-inch HD display
- 1GB RAM with 8GB internal storage
- 4000mAh battery
- Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition)
- Snapdragon 425
- 8MP main camera paired with a 5MP selfie shooter
Disappointedly, we get only 1GB of RAM and minimal storage but this is somewhat cushioned with the software that is specifically built to run on such low-powered hardware. Despite being an entry-level smartphone, the dual front-facing speakers will go a long way at getting the Nokia 2.1 the right attention.
HMD Global claims that the 4000mAh battery will last users about 2 days of usage and without proper testing, we’re just going to have to take their word for it.
In terms of design, the Nokia 2.1 has rounded edges with an aluminium frame and colourful polycarbonate back that is available in either Blue/Copper or Blue/Silver.
“Being able to rely on your smartphone from when you first wake up until you go to bed again is so important which is why the Nokia 2, with its two-day battery, has been one of the most welcome devices in our portfolio. We always want to keep giving our fans more so we’ve listened to their feedback and given them a faster processor, bigger screen and dual stereo speakers to give them an even better long-lasting experience to go with the great battery life,” said Celeste Muli-Gatheru, Marketing Manager, East Africa, HMD Global.
The Nokia 2.1 retails at Kes.11,500 and is available from accredited retailers countrywide.
