Katherine GetaoDr. Katherine Getao has been appointed as the new ICT authority CEO. The announcement was made by Kenya Information and Communication Ministry Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru.

Dr. Katherine Getao, previously ICT Secretary at Ministry of Information Communication and Technology of Kenya, will now serve the state corporation, which is under the umbrella of the ICT Ministry.

The announcement further reads:

“In exercise of the power conferred by the Information and Communications Technology Authority Order, 2013, the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and Technology appoints Katherine Getao (DR) to be the Chief Executive Officer for the ICT Authority for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 11th October, 2018.”

ICT Authority was established in 2013 to rationalize and streamline the management of all Government of Kenya ICT functions. The state corporation is involved with several duties that involve enforcing ICT standards in the Central and County governments.

Dr. Getao takes over from John Sergon who has been acting CEO for the past couple of months but in acting capacity. Before his new job, Mr Sergon was the Director of ICT in the ICT Ministry. Sergon succeeded Robert Mugo who was also acting CEO. Mugo for more than two years. Prior to Mugo’s appointment, the Authority was headed by Victor Kyalo who made a move to the Ministry of ICT as Permanent Secretary.
