WhatsAppWhatsApp has been relatively slow to ship new features that its other rivals already pack such as dark mode. To be fair, WhatsApp for iOS already rocks the fingerprint unlock feature that Android users waited eagerly for it to arrive on Google’s operating system. Well, the wait is over, as the feature is finally here on the latest WhatsApp beta app.

WhatsApp Beta version 2.19.221 now spots this feature which can be found in Settings > PrivacyFingerprint Lock. WhatsApp is also rolling this feature as a server-side update. If you’re impatient, just delete the app and reinstall it again.

With this new feature, your chats are safe as WhatsApp will work with your saved biometric credentials – the same one you use to unlock your phone.

When you enable this feature, you’ll be asked if you want the lock to be activated as soon as you close WhatsApp or wait for either 30 seconds or 1 minute. You can also hide notification content with this feature too.

You can download WhatsApp beta on the Google Play store.

The fingerprint unlock feature will soon ship to the official WhatsApp for Android app.
