Spotify App

Spotify has been working on its lyrics feature for a while now. They have been testing it in select markets since last year. The feature is now live in its app.

Before the introduction of the in-app lyrics feature, users had to get another app to show real-time lyrics such as Musixmatch which has become popular for music binge-listeners like me who are trying to sharpen their karaoke skills while self-quarantining during this pandemic that has had most people stay at home and find new ways to entertain themselves.

In-app lyrics have been available for Apple Music users as the streaming company teamed up with Genius in 2018.Apple Music Live lyics

Spotify’s partnerships with lyric providers was a mess. They worked with Musixmatch, cut ties with them to work with Genius for the “Behind the Lyrics” feature and now they’re back with Musixmatch to provide real-time lyrics inside the app.

Spotify was also testing a new UI for its lyrics feature.

You can now access lyrics that are available at the bottom of the “Now Playing” screen. The lyrics will be shown in the song’s language.Spotify Lyrics New UI
