itel has been doing a good job over the last couple of days – and the job represents its renewed vigor in the technology space.
For housekeeping purposes, itel is owned by Transsion – the same company that runs popular brands such as TECNO and Infinix.
The last two are popular in the Kenya market, probably because the country fits into its marketing masterplan, that is, sell to developing economies where customers do not have substantial funds for high-end devices.
Part of itel’s strategy entails entering into the home entertainment space. It has been there (in other markets), but it is possible the company wanted a splash and flair as a means to showcase its seriousness in putting its name out there.
This is not surprising because its sister brands mentioned above have home entertainment devices (TVs, so far). itel’s TVs are here too – and are already selling on X-park Kenya at a steal – but unlike immediate rivals from the likes on Infinix, these are not smart televisions. But they are equipped with an inbuilt digital decoder. And priced very well!
That aside, itel has new phones too. The S16 line of phones is timely because the S15, which the latest releases succeed has been around for an extended period, and deserves a replacement.
The S16 has a 6.5” screen; the S16 Pro has a 6.6” display – and both have a notch that houses a selfie snapper. At the back is a triple camera system: a main 8MP main sensor, and two 2MP lenses for macro and depth sensing. They also have 4000 mAh juicers.
itel says the devices will be up for sale on X-park before the month ends. Whenever they go up, we will then know about pricing details, and additional information such as storage and chipset.
Lastly, itel is partnering with Airtel Kenya for some good deals: customers who will buy the S16 will get a free Airtel SIM card and 2GB of data for three months – all for free. Customers who will buy other itel phones will also get 50% extra data, of course on Airtel.
We will update this post as soon as we get pricing details for the S16 line of phones.
