Huawei Y9s

Safaricom Open Day has officially kicked off today and will run through December. It’s the perfect time to buy gadgets and more with brands offering their products at a discount.

Huawei will be offering some of its devices up for grabs during this period – from select smartphones, smartwatches and even wireless earbuds.

The deals are worth checking out especially if you’re in the market for new devices or just want to upgrade just in time for the holiday season.

Huawei Smartphones and Accessories Awarded Good Design Awards 2020

Huawei Y9s – Ksh 22,999

Huawei Y9s was launched last year in mid November.

In a world of smartphones featuring punch-hole displays, the Huawei Y9s ditches for a full screen experience.

The phone comes with a 16MP pop-up selfie camera. We have a stunning 6.59″ LCD display with a resolution of FHD+ at 2340×1080 and in a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Powering the Huawei Y9s is a 2.2Ghz octa-core Kirin 710F chip coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. You can still expand the storage using an external micro-SD card. For gamers, the Huawei Y9s also rocks GPU Turbo 3.0.

The Huawei Y9s comes with Android Pie 9.0 and EMUI 9.1 and you can update to Android 10 via EMUI 10.

For optics, the Huawei Y9s features 4 cameras: triple AI-powered rear cameras and a pop-up selfie camera. The main cameras include 48MP, an 8MP wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor for bokeh shots.

There’s a dedicated night mode with the Huawei Y9s  that won’t fail to impress you.

The Huawei Y9s packs a 4000mAh battery plus feature smart power-saving options to increase its efficiency and give users extended battery life – It also sports a Type-C USB port. A 10W charger is provided.

A side-mounted fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock are present for biometrics.

The back looks elegant too with he colour-gradient back and the Huawei Y9s comes in two colours – Midnight Black and Breathing Crystal.

At launch, it retailed for Ksh 31,999.

You can now get it for Ksh 22,999 at official Safaricom stores countrywide.

Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 – Ksh 19,399

Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is another great device from the tech giant.

It was launched in late June last year.

Like the Huawei Y9s, this one also ditches the notch with a near bezel-less design.

You get a 6.59-inch Full HD Ultra FullView display with a resolution of 2340 by 1080.

Here's what you need to know about the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019:

Optics-wise, the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 rocks a pop-up camera mechanism that houses the 16MP f/2.0 lens. The retractable camera has been tested thoroughly and can sustain up to 100,000 pop-ups.

At the back of the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is a triple camera setup that includes a 16MP(f/1.8) main lens, an 8MP(f/2.4) wide-angle shooter with 120 degrees FOV(Field of View) and 2MP(f/2.4) depth sensor units.

The Kirin 710 processor runs the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019. It also rocks 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage plus the ability to expand it via a microSD up to 512GB.

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 comes with Android Pie 9.0 and EMUI 9.0. It was updated to Android 10 and EMUI 10 early this year.

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 packs a 4000mAh battery plus feature smart power saving options to increase its efficiency and give users extended battery life – It also sports a type-C USB port.

A rear fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock are present for biometrics.

The plastic finish looks good and you get various colours including Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, Emerald Green and Coral Red.

Huawei FreeBuds 3

Huawei FreeBuds 3 were launched in May this year for the Kenyan market.

These are the company’s wireless earphones and feature active noise cancellation which optimizes in real-time canceling background noise at it changes. Active noise cancellation is great for a number of scenarios where you’d want some peace and quiet, like canceling a plane’s engine noise or when you’re in a loud public service vehicle like a matatu. You can even adjust the active noise cancellation effect using the AI Life App that you can download.

The design is quite similar to Apple’s AirPods and has some features that rival what you find in the AirPods and mimics what you get with the AirPod Pros.

The Huawei Freebuds 3 are powered with their own Kirin A1 chip which features Bluetooth 5.1, promise fast and stable Bluetooth connection as well as offering what Huawei calls a “class-leading audio processor.”

It also has unexpected but cool features like a bone voice sensor that picks your voice through bone vibrations so that your voice can be enhanced. It also has instant pairing when you pop up the carrying case.

You can control the active noise cancellation or your music by tapping on the earbuds. Double-tap the right to play or switch music or the left bud to turn on or off the active noise cancellation. When you take an earbud off, playback pauses and resumes when you put it back in.

The Huawei FreeBuds 3 offers 4 hours of playback on a single charge while 20 hours of total playback with the charging case. The charging case can be charged via USB C or wirelessly either through your wireless charging mat or via reverse wireless charging on select phones like some Huawei top-end smartphones.

At launch, the Huawei Freebuds 3 retailed for Ksh 20,999 at Huawei’s Experience Store at Sarit Centre.

You can now get them for Ksh 17,999 only at official Safaricom’s Masoko.
