TECNO Camon 17 Pro

UPDATE: TECNO Camon 17 series is launching today in Kenya – the event will be live-streamed on YouTube and on NTV starting at 8 PM local time.

TECNO Camon 17 Pro Camera Review: Big Step Forward

TECNO Camon 17 Pro is set to soon premier in the country and as the apex smartphone in the Camon series, it is expected to feature top of the range camera features and its photography prowess.

TECNO Camon 17 Pro will join its other siblings in the Camon line including the Camon 16 Premier, Camon 16 Pro and Camon 16s.

The TECNO Camon 17 Pro will feature a 6.8″ FHD+ centred punch-hole display with a high screen refresh rate of 90Hz like the recently launched TECNO Spark 7P and its predecessor, the TECNO Camon 16 Premier.

Under the hood of the TECNO Cmaon 17 Pro, we’ll see MediaTek’s Helio G95 processor coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage which you can expand with an external microSD card.

TECNO Camon 17 comes with Android 11 and HiOS 7.6 straight out of the box.

In terms of optics, TECNO is touting that the Camon 17 Pro will come with an improved front-facing camera spurred by the demands of a selfie generation in the post-pandemic era now that more people are sharing snippets of their lives via selfies on social media with friends and family while quarantining at home.

Counterpoint research confirms these new consumer behaviours and smartphone usage habits in their recent whitepaper released this month.

But First, Let Me Take a Selfie

In this regard to the selfie-taking culture, TECNO will feature a documentary during the online launch of the Camon 17 Pro to explore the history of the selfie phenomenon and its impact on smartphone users today.

TECNO’s deep insights into the social culture behind selfie was echoed by Chris Evans, Hollywood A-lister actor as well as TECNO’s brand ambassador. Being a global celebrity, Evans is accustomed to requests for selfies.

A selfie might seem like ‘just another photo’ however, people can abuse it to document evidence and achievements, such as milestones such as brushing shoulders with celebrities or the ‘perfect life’. Evans says that the selfie ‘is a particularly important medium to help people understand perspectives and experiences.’

“Just as the selfie is a natural extension of individual expression, the mobile phone camera
becomes the technology through which we express ourselves.”

The social phenomenon of selfies has been gaining serious momentum in recent years and have become central to how people express themselves. The documentary outlines the way of looking at the future.

Selfies will be an important medium of self-expression, as gleaned from how the young ‘digital native’ generation, not just for individuals but also groups, whether online or in person.

The CAMON 17 Pro is the first product to put this behaviour into focus as users nowadays in the post-epidemic era associate selfies with their identity, making phone manufacturers such as TECNO sit up and take note.

Other TECNO Camon 17 Pro Features

TECNO Camon 17 Pro will ship with a large 4500mAh battery with 33W fast wired charging(USB-C port)

We’ll see a 48MP centered punch-hole selfie camera and a 64MP quad camera rear setup.

Other features expected include either a side-mounted fingerprint scanner or an indisplay fingerprint scanner if TECNO Camon 17 Pro goes with an AMOLED screen.

Launch Dates

TECNO Camon 17 Pro is set to launch in Kenya today[May 6th] to be livestreamed on YouTube and NTV

We’ll include pricing and pre-order details when that information becomes available.
