Twitter and Nigeria have had issues since early June when the platform deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s controversial tweet. the Nigerian Federal government suspended Twitter’s operations indefinitely since the beginning of June.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the country’s Minister of Information and Culture said the suspension was because of “persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”
Well, following its footsteps in India which required a local office to handle complaints, Twitter has agreed to set up an office in Nigeria.
Following this announcement which is probably part of the negotiations between the two, Nigeria’s Information Minister Lai Mohammed told reporters that they will lift the ban on Twitter in the country.
“The ban on Twitter will soon be lifted as we are getting close to reaching full agreement. We have agreed on some areas. Hopefully in the next few days or weeks, we will conclude.”
