5G is picking pace in the country and Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telco is at the helm in terms of the rollout of its 5G network.
The telco is set to publicly roll out 5G in Kenya sometime this year and is ramping up test sites across the country.
There are more than 200 test sites in various locations including Nairobi, Kisumu, Kisii, Kakamega and Amboseli(Ol Tukai).
The latest location Safaricom 5G network has been spotted is Yaya Centre. This info comes through our Techweez Forums user “HolyCow”.
In a screenshot shared on the Forum thread, you can see download speeds of 246Mbps and upload speeds of 28.1Mbps.
It’s worth noting that Safaricom has only allowed select devices to access 5G.
The telco said it will resolve this issue as the carrier erects 5G routers around the city for the masses.
As Safaricom continues testing its 5G network you won’t need to purchase a new SIM card as the current one is just as capable of accessing the faster connection.
We’ll update this article with more information.
