OPPO Reno6 5G Review

5G continues to remain elusive for some 5G branded smartphones in the country. One of the smartphones has been the OPPO Reno6 5G which was launched in early September last year.

This was the company’s first 5G smartphone in the country and succeeded the OPPO Reno 5.

OPPO Reno6 5G brought the Dimensity 900 5G processor coupled with Mali G78 GPU and 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage. But during our review, we couldn’t access its 5G capabilities.

The phone recently got a new update late last week that opened up its access to 5G.

The update lets you choose to switch between 4G and 5G. This means you can enable the 5G mode when you’re in an area with 5G such as Yaya Centre.

We ran speed tests and detected download speeds going up to 244Mbps.

These are really high speeds when compared to Safaricom’s 5G speeds spotted by our Forum members.

Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telco is set to publicly roll out 5G early next year. The company has been in the testing phase this year adding 200 test sites across the country in various towns including Nairobi, Kisumu, Kisii, Kakamega and surprisingly, also at Amboseli(Ol Tukai).

Safaricom said that it is increasing 5G test sites to also supplement its carrier network as 5G can be used as an alternative to home fibre and fibre for business services.

And as we said, you will not need a new SIM card. The one you have is totally capable of accessing the faster connection.

OPPO Reno6 5G ships with a 6.43″ AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

in February this year, OPPO Reno6 5G got updated to Android 12 and ColorOS 12.

In the photography department, OPPO Reno6 5G has a 64MP triple camera setup that features an 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro lens. We also have a 32MP punch-hole selfie camera.

Powering the OPPO Reno6 5G is a 4300mAh battery and supports 65W fast type-C charging.

OPPO Reno6 5G comes with its renowned Reno Glow design and comes in shimmering Aurora or stealthy Stellar Black colours.

OPPO Reno6 5G goes for Ksh 59,999 and is available at any OPPO store or online at Jumia, Masoko, Kilimall and Sky Garden.

It’s interesting that this update is rolling out to the OPPO Reno6 5G while the company is set to launch the OPPO Reno7 series later next week. The OPPO Reno7 series will have a 5G and a 4G version. Hopefully, the phones come running the update that lets the 5G version access 5G straight out of the box.

Stay tuned for more updates.
