The trend of abandoning charging bricks has slipped into BBK Electronics as OPPO is planning to stop including the charger in its boxes.
Apple started the bandwagon with Samsung, Xiaomi and Redmi following suit.
“We will take the charger out of the box in the next year for several products. We have a plan,” said Billy Zhang, OPPO VP of overseas sales and services during the European launch of the OPPO Reno8 series.
OPPO has been including its charging adapters featuring their proprietary superfast charging – VOOC and SuperVOOC in smartphone boxes. Charging speeds going from 33W in the OPPO A96 to 80W found in the OPPO Find X5.
It now seems you’ll have to dig deeper in your pocket to buy the charger as it will be sold separately.
“It’s not that easy for consumers to get access to [SuperVOOC chargers], so we have to keep it in the box. However, as we are expanding our business operations, we are looking to taking chargers out of the box and put them in the store so that our users are able to buy the chargers and continue using them even when they upgrade their devices.” he continued.
This move is planned to affect some of OPPO’a devices so the adapter will be included in the boxes for some phones.
OPPO didn’t say why they’re doing this. Its rivals like Apple pointed out that the decision to remove the charger is to save the environment which is still non-sensical.
