Samsung Kenya has revealed the availability of a new phone, the A04S. As its name suggests, it is part of the A series lineup that has been so successful. The A series basically replaced the J series many years ago.
Based on its price, the A04S is among the smartphones at the bottom of the A series food chain. It does not bring much to the table, but its set of features is serviceable to whoever may choose to buy the handheld.
Here is a summary of its specs:
Screen: 6.5”, HD+, 90 Hz
Software: Android 12, One UI Core 4
Chip: Exynos 850
MicroSD card slot: Yes
Memory: 4 GB RAM, 64 or 128 GB storage
Camera: Triple at 50 MP, 2 MP and 2 MP
Selfie: 5 MP
Charging and battery: USB Type-C, 5000 mAh cell, 15W charging
Samsung Kenya says that the device costs KES 20,000 for the 64 GB model, and KES 23,000 for double the storage.
The price is attractive for people who like Samsung devices. However, for the same amount, especially at KES 23K, there are many options out there that surpass the A04S’s feature set. The chip, for instance, is weaker, and at that price, we expected something else.
We are also impressed with the size of the battery, but it charges ‘slower’ at 15W. The competition has faster-charging speeds, and to be honest, it is high time that Samsung stopped limiting its charging speeds, even for budget phones. Samsung also has a knack for doing the same for flagship devices that top up at 25W. In current times, that’s just too slow, and we look forward to when that decision will be changed.
Is the A04S exciting enough for you? Probably, bearing in mind we already love the A23 and other expensive models such as the A53 and A73 that have proved their upper hand to customers.
