Ecommerce is big in Kenya, and many firms are trying to be appealing to their customers to maintain or grow their market share. It has not been an easy journey for these companies, but some of them have gone out of their way to launch new products and price them as competitively as possible for the same appeal.

Glovo, which has been running its business in Kenya for years, is one of such companies. It has since launched fulfillment services, although it is not the first firm to do so. A fulfillment service is an online platform that performs logistics roles or alleviates logistics difficulties from online sellers while also shielding them from high operation costs that are often associated with logistics.

Glovo says it has opened its third fulfillment service for Kenyan businesses. The first micro fulfillment centre was opened back in June 2021, and the second one came in in June 2022.

According to the platform, the third fulfillment centre will help it take advantage of its affordability value proposition and offer affordable fresh and consumer packaged goods (CPG) to the lower middle-income earners, consumers can now additionally order from the third micro fulfillment centre through the Glovo Market.

Glovo Market uses in-store digital technology and dedicated resources to ensure the quickest possible delivery times with customers receiving their orders in 20-40 minutes. It is accessible through Glovo’s app or website and closed to walk-in customers.

Glovo adds it is working not only with supermarkets such as Carrefour and Naivas, but also with retail brands such as Bulkbox, Diageo, EABL, Reckitt, Heshba, Mesora, Wrigleys, Pernod Ricard, Kimberly Clark, and Farmers Choice just to name a few.

Glovo’s micro-fulfillment centers have expanded the retail ecosystem, bringing several advantages. For instance, by using Glovo’s micro-fulfillment center, individuals and small businesses can continue to open retail businesses, selling products on Glovo’s platform which are fulfilled through Glovo warehousing and logistics (last mile) services.
