AFC Leopards has announced it has launched an E-ticketing system. The club’s online ticket system will start selling tickets from this week.
“The Club management is excited to announce that starting from our upcoming home match against Shabana on September 30, 2023, fans will now have the convenience of purchasing match tickets online through our E-Ticketing system,” said AFC Leopard in a statement
The 12-time Kenyan premier champions have been facing financial challenges that have span over two decades. This has seen the club fans starved of success with the last Premier League title coming in 1998 and no other trophy since winning the FKF President’s Cup in 2017.
Hence, it is hoped that the digital initiative will provide an efficient and traceable revenue collection stream. Further, the club hopes it will encourage more fans to buy tickets as they can do it remotely and in advance.
Another factor the club banks on is safety. The E-ticket system will reduce the need for fans to queue just before the game begins. In the past, such scenarios have led to stampedes outside Kenyan football stadiums.
AFC Leopards is encouraging its supporters to embrace technology and follow the club’s direction in going digital. Currently, the club has not stated if it will stop the physical sale of tickets. AFC’s Chairman Dan Shikanda has been pushing for the digitization of the club’s activities.
Importantly, this is not the first time Kenyan clubs have tried E-Ticketing. In the past, Ticketsasa has worked with Kenyan football clubs to manage their ticket systems on short-term contracts. However, this is the first time a club has rolled out its own ticketing system.
Ordinarily, Kenya premier league clubs sell tickets on match days at the gate. Advance tickets are sold at selected outlets via partners e.g. Ticket masters.

Arsenal’s E-Ticketing Migration
This season in the English Premier League, Arsenal FC moved to an all-digital system over the summer. Although, the club had online ticketing, they did away with paper tickets. Now, the ticketing information is housed in digital passes on a smartphone’s wallet, and entry verified using near field communication (NFC).
Arsenal’s opening Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest was delayed by 30 minutes. This was due to problems with the system at the Emirates Stadium that left thousands of fans unable to enter the ground.
This was however resolved and there have been no issues reported since.
