Xiaomi Redmi 12 Officially Launched in Kenya

Redmi 12

Xiaomi Redmi 12 is the latest device to hit the Kenyan market. After much teasing, the company has officially launched the phone in the country. It succeeds the Redmi 10 from 2021 as the company skipped Redmi 11.

Redmi Note 12 sports a clean flat design spearheaded by the 6.79-inch 1080p LCD screen with 90Hz refresh rate and 550 nits peak brightness. It brings with it a glass back as well and an I53 rating for dust and water splash resistance.

It’s worth noting that the phone has a hybrid-sim slot which means you can use two nano-SIM cards or one nano-SIM card and a microSD card for external storage.

It also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint reader embedded in the power button and an IR blaster located at the top which makes the phone usable as a remote to control some home appliances including TVs and Air conditioners.

The Redmi 12 has a single bottom-facing speaker for audio instead of the dual speaker setup of its predecessor. A headphone jack is found at the top of the phone.

MediaTek’s Helio G88 processor is powering the phone with RAM and storage options starting from 8GB and 128GB/256GB respectively. The phone ships with Android 13 and MIUI 14 and Xiaomi has promised that it will get two major Android OS updates and up to four years of security updates.

For optics, the Redmi 12 has a triple rear setup comprised of a 50MP main, an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro sensor – the lenses sit alone instead in rings as opposed to having a camera island. For selfies, we get an 8MP front-facing camera. Video recording for both main and selfie cameras is capped at 1080p 30fps.

Redmi 12 has a 5000mAh battery supporting 18W(PD) fast Type-C charging. The retail box sadly doesn’t come with a charging brick, only the Type-C to Type-A charging cable. There’s a silicone case provided to protect your phone.

Redmi 12 comes in various colours including Moonstone Silver, Polar Silver, Midnight Black and Sky Blue.
