OPPO A60

OPPO A60 is now available in Kenya. This is the company’s 4G-powered device, following up on the successful Reno11 F 5G, Reno11, and Reno11 Pro launch.

Quick Summary: The OPPO A60 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 and 8GB RAM. Storage options are 128GB or 256GB both expandable. The screen is a 6.67-inch 90hz LCD. 50MP primary camera and 2MP secondary camera and an 8MP selfie camera. The battery is 5000mAh battery with 45W charging. The standout factor is the drop protection and water ingress IP54 rating that let's you use the phone in the wet.

The A60 is the sequel to the OPPO A58 4G which launched late last year. The OPPO A60 has a 6.67-inch LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and an okay screen, not so great for outside viewing. The back of the phone has a blue water ripple pattern that looks very neat, it’s also available in Midnight Purple if you prefer a more laid-back colour, but we recommend the latter as it looks much better.

The A60 has double-tempered glass for the screen. OPPO added a Splash Touch feature to it. This feature improves touch accuracy and responsiveness when the screen is wet. But, during testing, this was hit-and-miss. OPPO added ingress protection to the phone. The A60 has IP54 dust and splash resistance – a feature we can vouch for.

The phone has a claimed military-grade MIL-STD-810H rating. This means the phone can survive drops from 1.2M with no damage. We properly abused the device in testing. We threw the device at each other. Then, we threw it into a gravel pit and drove a hustler-wagon (wheelbarrow) over it. We washed it and threw it many times into a tub. Despite all this, it still worked perfectly. It only had a few scratches and dings. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint reader and stereo speakers.

Instead of the MediaTek Helio G85 processor, OPPO picked Qualcomm’s 4-year old, Snapdragon 680 chipset to be at the helm of the A60. It has 8GB of onboard RAM plus 8GB extended RAM and 256GB storage. The device runs on Android 14 and ColorOS 14.

For photography, the cameras stay the same as the A60 has a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor with an 8MP selfie camera, video recording is capped at 1080p. You get features like Portrait Mode, AI Portrait Retouching, and Dual-view Video to play around with.

Powering the phone is a 5000mAh battery that now supports the much faster 45W SuperVOOC wired charging which means that half an hour of charging can top up the phone to 50%.

The device comes in two colours – Ripple Blue and Midnight Purple.

OPPO A60 can be purchased for Ksh 29,999 at OPPO stores.
