While the world watched the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, the company also hosted its launch event in Nairobi. Right after the international presentation, we finally got to see the foldable devices also launch in the country.
Samsung says that both devices are the lightest and slimmest foldable in the Galaxy Z series yet. While we didn’t get alot of spec bumps on the Galaxy Fold, the device seemed to focus alot more on the new tech used to make the display with a goal of reducing the creasing. And from first-time use, you can barely notice the creasing at all. The most notable upgrade was the processor as the Z Fold 6 now packs the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 designed to give it the latest kind of high-level performance. With the chipset’s upgraded GPU, the device now features ray-tracing which is a feature designed to make gaming more immersive and realistic.
The device also comes with a new hinge structure designed to give the phone a flatter profile and reduce the curvature around the corners. This is meant to make the Z Fold 6 more dust-tight.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 also packs the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. The most notable upgrade for this device is the 50MP camera that replaces the 12MP on the Z Flip 5. It also sees a number of AI-powered features like smart replies that are customized for the phone’s cover screen.
Both devices also have several features centred around Galaxy AI that are set to roll out to more Samsung devices from now. The main focus of Galaxy AI is its new capabilities of taking advantage of both devices’ multiple screens.
Both foldables are now available for pre-order at KES 148,000 for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and KES 264,000 for the 512GB Galaxy Fold 6.
