Instagram is an incredibly popular social network right now. It gained 100 million users in 4 months to a grand total of 700 million, which is double Twitter’s count.
However, the engagement statistics between posts made by male users and those made by female users are quite interesting and you may have noticed this.
Hopper did a study where they looked at the engagement statistics between males and females in Instagram and they found some interesting results.
They found that on average, female Instagram users get five times the number of likes than male users (578 vs 117). They also found out that the posts female Instagram users publish get a third more comments on average than posts made by males. (170 compared to 113).
It does not end there. Hopper also found out that males are 10 times more likely to like and/or comment on female users posts than those of other men, which is not surprising at all. When it comes to content posted by males, only 13% of the likes and comments were made by other male users.
“Instagram has always been a predominantly female platform, but these findings show how tough it is out there for male focused brands and influencers to build followings and reach audiences,” Mark Bandar, Hoppers co-founder was quoted as saying.
Hopper also came up with the top types of content for both male and female users:
