Blackberry Jam Universities was in Kenya this week on Wednesday. There were over 40 developers from 5 Kenyan Universities; Inoorero University, Strathmore University, Jomo Kenyatta University, Kenyatta University and Mount Kenya University in the event which was held at Mocca Hotel in Nairobi.

So far Blackberry has hosted 44 Jam Sessions in 37 countries roping in 9300 attendees. South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria had around 300 developers in year 2012 attend Blackberry Jam. My Police by Nairobi University an app that seeks to inform users of whether a policeman is s stooge or genuine was one of the apps which won at the Blackberry Jam Universities Kenya.

This was in the business category while the best Social app was Salud which is Spanish for “eat healthy’ by Inoorero University. The event which lasted 10 hours ten hours with developers grouped into fours had developers transform a social app or business app idea into a working app. The prize was a Blackberry Playbook.

Blackberry Z10 will be launching in Kenya in the month of April and Blackberry  is keen on getting as many Blackberry 10 apps on the store for a local experience when users get to purchase the devices.
