With a spate of bad news after bad news coming out of Waterloo, I was almost giving up on BBM ever showing up on the App Store and the Play Store. Blackberry, the company that matters in this case, has not yet given up. They have backed up last week’s statement that BBM is still on course for an Android and iOS release “soon” with a new beta version of the app.
The beta release is available for testing to those who had successfully registered to be beta testers when Blackberry invited beta testers sometime back. In addition to the usual bug fixes, the new BBM app beta release also features a new welcome screen that explains to you the app notifications present, there’s also an option to enable or disable the BBM notification in the notification shade (for Android devices) and notification centre (for iOS devices). There’s also a more polished UI.
