Infinix is a largely unknown mobile phone company that has made inroads in Nigeria and now Kenya. Following hotly in the footsteps of Tecno that has been in the market only recently converted to smartphone from dumb phones, Infinix targets the entry level and mid range markets in Kenya. These two bring an assault to the market leaders Samsung and Nokia which have massive numbers in both ranges. Infinix already has a portfolio of around 12 different smartphones and three tablets they call Joypad.

This week they make their first market onslaught with a media launch that will see them bag Safaricom as a distribution partner. Infinix sells dual SIM phones although it’s quite natural to expect Safaricom to insist on a single SIM variant of the device they sell. They have done that previously with Tecno and Alcatel, brands that mainly sell dual-SIM phones in the market.

The device to be launched this week is the Infinix flagship Alpha Marvel X502, a 5 inch Android smartphone.

Below are the specs of the Alpha Marvel X502:

  • 5 inch HD display
  • Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean
  • 1.5GHz Quad Core Processor(no available information on processor type)
  • 16GB internal storage
  • 1GB RAM
  • 147 x 72.1 x 6.98 mm dimensions
  • Plastic unibody, non-removable battery
  • 13MP AF rear camera
  • 5MP front camera
  • 3G (dual band) and 2G (Quad Band) networks
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • WiFi, WiFi Hotspot, A-GPS, USB 2.0
  • 2500 mAh
  • Colours: Black and White

Price could be in the range of Kshs 20,000, it’s $205 as prices from Nigeria suggest. So that’s all for now as we await the launch and possibly take it for a spin and we can give an opinion on the device later.

[Confirmed] The price is Kshs 30,000 in Kenya.
