Steve JobsA 2010 email by Steve Jobs tabled in the Apple Vs Samsung patent lawsuit on April 4th 2014 at a California Court revealed Apple’s strategy plans then to launch a “Holy war” with the Android maker Google. In the email addressed to Apple’s 100 most senior employees, Steve Jobs notes that Android had surpassed iOS and the company really had to catch up and “leapfrog them”.

Also in the email were other key strategic plans, with Jobs proclaiming 2011 would be the “year of the cloud” and the same year would herald the “Post PC era” where computer devices would be “more mobile” i.e smaller, thinner and lighter. The email also mentions the future of Apple TV, including a strategy to ‘stay in the living room game and make a great ‘must have’ accessory for iOS devices,’ and add more customers to the Apple ecosystem.

Steve Jobs wrote the email at a time when Apple’s fears were growing over Google, once a key Apple partner with the iPhone. Google back then had started making global waves with its Android technology. By licensing Android for free, Google developed software for most of Apple’s main smartphone and tablet manufacturing rivals including Samsung.

The email was tabled by Samsung’s lawyers as the two smartphone giants engaged each other in a new Patents trial that started in April 1 2014. Samsung’s lead attorney John Quinn in his arguments highlighted that Apple’s real fight is with Google. John Quinn accused Apple of using the trial to catch up with the top placed smartphone Android OS. Job wrote in the email that the Holy war with Google was the “primary reason for this Top 100 meeting” and they were to discuss “all the ways we will compete with them”.

Here’s the entire email:
