HTC’s new flagship, the One M8 which was announced in late March comes with two rear facing cameras. The lens for these cameras is created by Altek and according to the company president Alex Hsia, Huawei and Lenovo have contracted them to supply them with double-lens modules. Dual-camera from these 2 smartphone vendors are expected to come out by Q2/2014, as for Apple and Samsung products along this lines are expected in 2015.
Hsia remarks that Altek now supplies lens modules to smartphones (50-60% of Altek’s revenues) more than it does for digital cameras (20-30% revenues). Automotive and medical lens soutions account for 10-15% of Altek’s consolidated revenues.
