MTN’s operations in Rwanda and Zambia have sold 100% of their mobile network towers to IHS subsidaries in both countries. The infrastructure will now be owned and managed by IHS with MTN being the anchor tenants on these towers. MTN had 550 towers in Rwanda and 719 in Zambia. With the acquisition, other operators in these markets can now get colocation services from IHS. Over the last 2 months, IHS has gotten additional funding at $620 mn. This should help in bank rolling acquisitions in strategic markets over the region. The company’s operations are developed around energy saving technologies including the powering of its infrastructure through solar power solutions.
