Nominations are now open for 2014 OLX Social Media Awards in Kenya. OLX Kenya is the title sponsor for the event which starts with nominations, voting and a gala awards ceremony on the 2nd of October 2014.
This is the second year SOMA Awards is happening after a very successful event last year that highlighted the positively influential individuals and corporates on social media. SOMA Awards seeks to celebrate contribution of social media in the social, economic and political spheres by recognizing those who have positively impacted lives by using social media.
OLX Kenya CEO, Mr Peter Ndiangu’i, said the Awards will promote the growth of businesses and communication through social media. Mr. Ndiangu’i said social media has boosted the growth of e-commerce, helped in attainment of career objectives and enhancement of citizens’ participation in governance.
The theme for this year’s Awards is “Making Social Media Work For You” and includes new categories for the National and County Governments, Learning Institutions, and Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs). The list of categories are as below:

Social Media Awards (SOMA) Director, Mr. Martin Muli, said the categories have been reviewed to make the Awards more relevant to the tremendous growth witnessed in the social media scene over the last one year.
“These Awards are designed to create a platform to celebrate the contribution of social media to the social, economic and political spheres of our lives,” Muli said, adding “the consolidation and new additions in categories will serve to grow the Social Media Awards in stature and popularity over the coming years.”
