Samsung has been pushing its new smartphone design (all metal build) on devices and key among these is the Galaxy A series which comprises the Galaxy A3, A5 and A7. These launched with Android 4.4 KitKat and as you know that is not really the latest version of Android out there. According to Samsung watchers Sammobile, the Lollipop update is in the pipeline and should be available soon.
The Lollipop update will be to Android 5.0 and not the latest 5.1 which just got announced recently. This also includes the Galaxy Alpha which is considered by many as a top end model of the A series. The Lollipop update is expected to bring with it the trimmed TouchWiz that debuted on the Galaxy S6 and all the goodness of Material Design as envisioned by Google.
In addition to the Galaxy A series, Samsung is still seeding Lollipop updates to the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 in various regions around the world. The old Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 are also receiving the update. There’s no confirmation on whether older devices like the Note 2 will make the jump to Android 5 like we’ve previously heard.
In Kenya, the Galaxy A5 and A3 are available through various channels like Safaricom shops, Airtel’s Customer Experience centres, online marketplace Jumia and other stores at Ksh 40,000 and Ksh 30,000 respectively.
